October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is a great time to stop and consider whether you’re doing all you can to protect your online information. As our Members' Watchdog, Space Coast Credit Union wants to make sure you have the tools and knowledge to be proactive in creating a more secure online environment. 

Every time you check your balance, transfer funds, or pay a bill online, you're using digital tools to help make your life easier. However, these things are also targets for fraudsters. Cybercriminals are always looking for ways to access sensitive information like account numbers, passwords, and Social Security numbers.

That’s why being aware is so important. When you know what to look for, you can spot a scam before it becomes a serious problem. We hope this month will serve as a helpful reminder to review your security habits and learn new ways to stay one step ahead.

Below are some tips to help protect your online accounts and personal information:  

• Use strong, unique pass phrases for each account.
• Avoid clicking suspicious links in emails/texts and let us know if you suspect a scam.
• Set up banking and credit card alerts.
• Turn on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
• Update software on phones and computers.
• Use a secure, password-protected Wi-Fi network.
• Review social media privacy settings.
• Back up your important data.
